What are HIIT Workouts

HIIT is a short bout of exercise that is timed starting from 10 seconds and up to 60 seconds followed by an active recovery that is equal to the same length or longer. Each cycle is an intense workout that can range anywhere from 3 sets and up to 10, depending on the workout plan. HIIT is usually done on one spot in a room or a gym and requires minimal to no equipment. Workout or yoga mat is always a good idea as HIIT exercises can include exercises such as burpees, mountain climbers, push-ups, russian twist, side jackknife, planks etc. HIIT is proven to be more effective (in terms of toning and losing weight) than long sessions of cardio. Here are 5 types of HIIT that are known today:
1. Tabata. Is usually great for beginners or advanced athletes.
2. Full-body HIIT. Taps into almost each muscle group in the body in order to get the whole body moving. Excellent for toning.

3. Cardio HIIT. Focuses more on getting the heart rate up quickly and keeps it at the same rate. Most beneficial for weight loss.
4. HIIT with weights. Adds extra work into the workout. Outcome is a toned body and some muscle mass gain.
5. HIIT for runners. Can be perfect for runners to improve their strength and endurance for the race.

Knowing all types of HIIT workouts will help you to choose the one that fits best for your needs and gain muscle strength. Always consult your physician before beginning any type of exercise, especially if you have a heart condition. Stay healthy and be well.
