Living in Southern California is not only fun but it also comes with perks like hikes. Because of the abundance of hills (valley areas in particular) there are a lot of hikes to explore. And Californians are considered to be one of the avid hikers. Here are 5 best hikes in SoCal:
1. Los Liones hike is 2.6 miles long (out and back). With elevation up to 550 feet. It is the most scenic hike in the Los Angeles area since it has an overlook to the Pacific Ocean, Santa Monica and Pacific Palisades area. It is dog friendly and provides minimal to no shade along the way.
2. The Ruins of Echo Mountains house in Altadena is 5.4 miles long, 1417 feet elevation and takes about 3 hours to complete (out and back). It’s a moderately difficult hike with minimal to no shade along the way. Trail is famous for its scenic view and history of a burned down hotel (from 1894) that was residing on the very top of the mountains.

3. Solstice Canyon trail in Malibu hills is an easy 2 mile hike with 200 feet elevation. That trail has some shady areas along the way and is dog friendly but must be on the leash. It is famous for a small waterfall and the ruins of a house that was built in the 1950s and burned down due to brush fires back in the 1980s.
4. Malibu Creek State Park is an 8 miles long hike (in and out). Has various trails with elevation ranging from 36 to 3,047 feet high. It's a strenuous hike level that has minimal to no shade along the way. The hike might be pretty intense but has nice scenery with few man-made lakes where hikers enjoy to swim in. It is also dog friendly, but requires a dog on the leash.
5. Victory Trailhead in West Hills is 11.7 miles long, 314.9 feet high and takes approximately over 5 hour (in and out) to complete. It is considered to be a strenuous hike with few trails where some are great for mountain biking and group hiking. This trail has most magnificent view during spring time when all the hills are full of bloom and vibrant green grass. It is also considered to be one of the beloved places for photographers. The trail is also dog friendly.
Important facts to consider while hiking are to always carry water with you, wear sunscreen, protective clothing and watch out for rattlesnakes (especially during months of May and June). Stay safe and be well.
