As a woman gets pregnant (hooray if you did and congrats!), expecting mothers have a lot of questions and fears of harming the baby during exercise or by doing daily activities. Let’s talk about 5 reasons not to be afraid to exercise during pregnancy. But before you proceed please consult your doctor and make sure you get a medical clearance from your OB- GYN specialist.
Let's look at those reasons:
1. Exercise helps improve your blood circulation which is helpful for mom and baby's health.
2. Endorphin released after the workout routine. Can’t say enough benefits of that neurotransmitter (endorphin). But the main one is once the workout is complete, endorphin is released and it helps feeling elevated thereafter.
3. Keep moving to prevent extra weight gain and joint pain, as it might help you to lose 'baby weight’ after giving birth. You would be able retain muscle mass that you already had before getting pregnant or keep your muscles tone throughout it.
4. Daily basic or advanced stretching (like yoga, pilates etc.) can help pregnant moms to relieve restless leg syndrome, spasms or sciatica pain that can become more consistent during the second and third trimesters.
5. Exercise can be one of the preventative measures for some health complications during pregnancy. Meaning some health complications can be corrected at an early stage with a healthy diet and physical activity.
Pregnancy is a very unique experience for every woman and nor two pregnancies are the same. Followed by the 5 reasons guide, it would be worth mentioning that some women can feel nauseated throughout the whole pregnancy and having done simple tasks around the house is already a big achievement for them. Just remember to take it easy mama, because wether you are working out or not, you are doing the best job you can! You are creating a new human!
